Skanska builds light rail in Lund

Skanska has signed a contract with the municipality of Lund to build a new tramway between Lund Central Station and the European Spallation Source (ESS), northeast of downtown.

The project includes 5.5 kilometers of double track and includes nine stops, a new bridge, traffic devices and installation of track, electrical, signal and telecom in the urban environment.

Construction work will begin March 1 and the tramway will be ready for test runs by year end 2018.

KAMAZ and Daimler begin construction on plane cabin production plant

On March 10, KAMAZ and Daimler began construction in Naberezhnye Chelny on a joint plane cabin production plant that will focus on frame production and painting.

On Wednesday, Sergey Kogogin — Director General of KAMAZ — joined Wolfgang Bernhard from Daimler's Board of Management and DK RUS's management team to visit the construction site of the new DK RUS cabin production plant, located at KAMAZ's facilities, and KAMAZ's cabin assembly line.

"Establishing a cabin production joint venture with Daimler will be the next step in expanding our cooperation with the German group. KAMAZ is implementing Rostec's strategy to raise "smart" capital that allows us to obtain the necessary expertise, gain access to new markets, and provide additional financing,"Sergey Kogogin, Director General of KAMAZ, stated.

The strategic partnership between Daimler and KAMAZ has existed since 2008 and has developed into a tight-knit cooperation involving a large number of successful joint projects.

The design idiom is clear, purist and very progressive. The fabric soft top can be opened fully automatically in twelve seconds – even when driving at top speed. The smart fortwo cabrio has celebrated its world premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September 2015. The open-top two-seater will reach dealers in February 2016.

Planning consent for Biscuit Factory Plot 5

Southwark Council’s planning committee has unanimously voted to grant planning consent for Plot 5 at the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey, south London. AHMM secured outline consent in 2013 for the wider masterplan for the redevelopment of the old Peek Frean factory site, which includes 800 residential units and 8,240 square metres of new commercial space. 

The six-storey Plot 5 building will form the first phase of the development, with six floors of office space and communal amenity space at the ground floor.

Hongqiao CBD and the Flower Building's green roof visible on Google maps

MVRDV's developments in Hongqiao, Shanghai have surfaced on Google maps. As well as the Flower Building's green roof, which contributed to the building's three star 'Green Building Label', users can also find the Hongqiao CBD masterplan just to the south. 

The newly released satellite imagery shows the majority of the buildings in the project taking shape, with the Flower Building leading the way as one of the few already completed buildings in the area.

Borton-Lawson project will be featured in november issue of Roads & Bridges

Borton-Lawson designed of two replacement bridge superstructures that carry heavily travelled Interstate-81 over Leitersburg Road in Franklin County, PA. Working with Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance (contractor) and PennDOT District 8-0 (owner) on this design-build project, Borton-Lawson streamlined construction through Accelerated Bridge Construction technique. 

A+Bx bidding was utilized to minimize impacts to the public. More than 50,000 vehicles travel on these bridges each day and the superstructure replacements were completed in just 48 days.
