Our Forensic practice investigates problems in the built environment and provides evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues.
The Role
Thornton Tomasetti’s Forensics practice is seeking a Vice President, Forensic Civil Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative team. This role is ideal for an experienced civil engineer with a strong background in transportation, site/civil, traffic, roadway, parking, and utility projects. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise and project management skills, along with a passion for client development and business growth. Experience working with repeat clients in the forensics space—such as attorneys and insurance professionals—is highly valued.
Responsibilities
Manage forensic engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
Supervise and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and professional development support.
Collaborate with other offices and practice groups to share resources and expertise on multidisciplinary projects.
Lead client engagements, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with attorneys, insurance professionals, contractors, and property owners.
Drive business development initiatives, including leading project pursuits, proposal development, and contract negotiations.
Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and in community presentations to build visibility and client trust.
Provide expert analysis and testimony in legal settings, including depositions, mediations, and trials when required.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
Professional Engineer (PE) license required with the ability to obtain in other states.
Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, including at least 6 years in civil design and project management.
Proven ability to assess and analyze structural or civil damage, write clear technical reports, and form sound engineering conclusions.
Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills; expert witness experience is a plus.
Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $140,000 - $230,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
