About the Position

If you are a Chartered Structural Engineer looking for your next challenge, we would love to hear from you. We are currently seeking a high-caliber and motivated Senior Structural Engineer to join our expanding Civil and Structural Engineering team to deliver consultancy services and develop engineering solutions for our clients primarily within the retail, commercial and industrial sectors. You will work closely with our highly skilled multi-disciplinary teams throughout the organization and our clients to efficiently deliver projects and provide high value consultancy services.

You will be based in our Abu Dhabi office. Our business operates in both the United Arab Emirates and international marketplaces.

General Requirements

You will be expected to have experience of the civil / structures sector and required to have sound knowledge of design in common building materials including steel, concrete, timber and masonry. Application of these proficiencies in the relevant sectors and to the relevant American and local UAE Codes and other international codes is desirable.

Demonstrating an aptitude for any of the following will be considered advantageous to any application:

A knowledge of seismic and dynamic design.

Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.

Project management skills and ownership of work.

Strong client relationship management skills.

Strong presentation and communication skills, written and verbal.

Problem solving

Application of Engineering principles

Design as per relevant authority requirements.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

You are likely to work on a portfolio of different projects and will apply your acquired skills and knowledge in a range of environments. Your role and responsibilities will develop as your knowledge of our business increases, but initially you will be required to provide:

Successful contribution to and delivery of projects in a team environment, including.

Personal responsibility and ownership of projects

Technical and commercial delivery

Management, liaison and co-ordination of the Engineers and Technicians in the team

Production of deliverables to programmed timescales

Knowledge sharing and mentoring of less experienced members of the team.

Interpretation and application of relevant client, industry and GHD standards

Work collaboratively with other GHD offices on local and international projects.

Qualifications, Technical Skills and Experience Required

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

Bachelor’s degree in civil / structural Engineering

8 years of professional experience working on building and infrastructure projects.

Working towards or Chartered Engineer (MICE, MIStructE).

Experience in leading teams.

Experience in the design and specification of building structures in steel, concrete and masonry to American and British Standards.

Be familiar with local UAE Authority design requirements.

A knowledge of practices and procedures used within the retail, commercial and/or industrial sectors would be an advantage.

Have experience of delivering projects from design through completion in the multi-disciplinary and /or multi office project execution environment.

Experienced user of structural engineering software including CSci ETABS, SAFE, Robot structural Analysis, STAAD, Prokon in addition to in-house spreadsheets.

Experience of working within a 3D design environment is needed and an ability to work to BIM protocols would be desirable.
