In this role, you will design and deploy algorithms, models, and full-stack solutions that improve operational efficiency and enable data-driven decision-making through intuitive dashboards and analytics platforms. Leveraging mathematical modeling, simulation, and heuristic methods, you will partner with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with Tesla’s production and sustainability objectives. Based in Lathrop, California, this role is critical to optimizing global manufacturing workflows and scaling sustainable production through innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of in-house tools (front-end and back-end) to support process optimization, leveraging OR techniques such as mathematical modeling, simulation, and algorithm development, while maintaining a holistic business view to align solutions with strategic organizational goals
  • Build and implement advanced algorithms and optimization models to solve complex operational challenges, improving relentlessly to enhance efficiency across business processes

  • Create and maintain dashboards and intuitive operator touchscreen interfaces (including SCADA dashboards) to visualize key metrics, enabling data-driven decision-making and supporting optimization efforts

  • Develop discrete event simulations to model material flow processes, analyzing and optimizing workflows while solving problems collaboratively with cross-functional teams

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify operational bottlenecks, translate requirements into technical solutions, and ensure seamless tool integration, demonstrating ownership and dependability in project delivery

  • Continuously refine tools and models by incorporating feedback, monitoring performance, and staying current with OR and development best practices, thereby raising the bar for team excellence

  • Mentor and develop talent within the current engineering team, providing guidance on OR methodologies, full-stack development, and problem-solving to build high-performing individuals and strengthen team capabilities

  • Establish and promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement, aligning with Tesla's values to foster an environment where the team thrives and exceeds expectations in the current operational landscape

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Operations, Industrial, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience in operations research, including optimization techniques, algorithm design, and mathematical modeling (e.g. linear programming, simulation, heuristics), with a focus on knowing the business to drive strategic, enterprise-wide impact

  • Proficiency in full-stack development, including front-end (e.g. JavaScript, React, HTML/CSS) and back-end (e.g. Python, Node.js, Java) technologies, along with DevOps practices or CI/CD pipelines

  • Strong expertise in data analytics tools (e.g. Python, R, SQL) and visualization platforms (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, or custom solutions) to support insightful, data-driven leadership

  • Familiarity with discrete event simulation tools (e.g. Flex Sim, Any Logic, Arena) and SCADA systems (e.g. Ignition), with the ability to mentor others in their application

  • Demonstrated leadership in developing talent, establishing culture, and raising the bar through mentoring the current team, team building, and ownership of high-stakes projects

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with experience in structured methodologies (e.g. DMAIC, 8D, SPC/OCAP), and the ability to improve relentlessly in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
