GHD has rich expertise in delivering projects for clients through EPCM, EPC, Owner’s Engineer and other delivery models in Western Australia and elsewhere. This is complimented by our local team’s strong pedigree in the end-to-end power system design which includes generation, transmission, distribution, renewables, battery energy storage and hydrogen technology. Located in Perth, you will work with a team of highly experienced engineers and project managers and be engaged our local, interstate and global operations.

We’re looking for a Senior Structural Engineer (Substations) to join our Energy Group.

Working with a dedicated and high performing team, reporting to the Team Lead Substation Primary Design, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

Design of structures related to power facilities including Transmission Substations and Renewable Generation facilities

Planning, managing, analysing and understanding the scope of work for a variety of projects, including financial control, time management and client satisfaction

Staying abreast of industry trends and best practice within the industry. Attend relevant technical seminars, present papers where appropriate and provide in-house briefings upon attendance.  Be actively involved in industry groups and affiliations

Liaising with related specialists, sub consultants, operators and contractors.

Preparing technical reports, specification designs and overseeing details of drafting by technical staff 

Undertake computer analysis of engineering systems

Contributing to the development of GHD’s knowledge and skills in structural engineering including planning, design and construction

What you will bring to the team:

Bachelor’s degree qualifications in a structural or civil engineering discipline, with experience in power considerations in design (Chartered engineering status desirable)

Proven experience and a sound understanding of current structural engineering technologies, encompassing a range of structures. Experience in substation design for power utilities a must!

Proven experience in the management of structural engineering projects

Strong team development skills, a team player

Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, open communication

Focus on client service

Able to manage several jobs at once and determine priorities

Ability to influence others, good negotiating skills
