As a Mechanical Engineer, you will perform varied Mechanical Engineering tasks under the guidance of senior/experienced engineers while contributing to hands-on Project and Design management, monitoring progress/risks/financials, supporting small bids, and fostering client relationships across the Resources team.

Your key responsibilities will be (but not limited to):

Engineering Tasks and Analysis: Undertake varied engineering tasks of limited scope and complexity. Assist more senior engineers with the analysis of information, production of designs, and computations. Use a combination of standard and modified engineering methods/techniques in addition to those developed in previous assignments for the purposes of solving problems.

Project Participation: Assume responsibility for the results of simple projects or sections of projects. Participate in planning to achieve prescribed objectives.

Documentation and Specification: Prepare specifications, proposals, and other documentation under broad supervision. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in all engineering activities.

Documentation Management: Ensures team members, clients, and subcontractors have appropriate access given their role, and access is maintained appropriately throughout the life of the project.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, engineers, technicians, and contractors, to coordinate mechanical engineering activities. Communicate effectively to convey technical information, provide guidance, and address project requirements.

Client Relationship and Sales: Start developing and maintaining strong key client relationships. Collaborate closely with Jacobs’s client management team to identify emerging opportunities with clients.

Project and Design Management Support: Assist with managing projects delivering on cost, on time, and resulting in client satisfaction. Provide assistance with design management functions on projects. Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs (civil, mechanical, electrical, structural) and facilitate timely reviews by senior designers/engineers.  Monitor and report project progress, risks, issues, changes, and metrics, support governance and closure activities. Support budgeting, forecasting, and earned-value tracking; meet commercial outcomes by managing own hours/budgets and, where applicable, small team budgets.

Here's what you'll need

Relevant Tertiary Engineering Degree (Professional Registration CPEng highly regarded) and demonstrated understanding of Mechanical engineering principles and proficiency in engineering software.

Current knowledge of international and local engineering methods, applicable codes and specifications associated with resources projects.

Knowledge on the various aspects of the planning, design and commissioning processes, construction methods and interface requirements of multi-disciplinary projects.

Knowledge of planning, study, detailed design, commissioning and close out of resources projects, with knowledge of current design standards. 

Familiarity with the delivery methodology including initiation, development and delivery phases for resources clients.

Ability to work effectively with engineers at all levels and actively monitors events adversely impacting either the project delivery or targeted outcome; escalates appropriately and with fact-based information to present situation to client, and to present corrective options for consideration and implementation.

Good communication skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to manoeuvre through complex situations effectively and quietly; is sensitive to how people and organizations function; anticipates where sensitivities are and plans their approach accordingly.
