Civil Engineer

Orbital is seeking a senior Civil engineer with 10+ years of experience to support projects in our Heavy Industrial vertical.  This position is fully remote. This person would provide technical and project execution oversight for various projects.  The position requires project experience in a consulting environment, and well-rounded expertise in retrofit engineering projects in the utilities, water, infrastructure, steel, construction, manufacturing, petrochemical, chemical, mining, materials processing, and/or power generation industries.  ​​Orbital is evaluating candidates based upon their technical depth of knowledge, field experience and construction/engineering management experience in applications such as:

Underground pipelines

Water distribution systems

Sewer collection systems

Storm water management

Natural gas T&D

Roadways & transportation

Excavation, soils, & geotechnical

Field construction management

Surveying & staking

Grading design

Rail and water crossings

Casings and cathodic protection

Permit review & compliance

Working with review agencies

Working with municipalities & utilities

Local ordinances & industry codes

Excavation and shoring

Construction methods

Design for safety

The ideal candidate will be a high performing, critically thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with excellent leadership skills, written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Primary Responsibilities:

Review client requests for proposals and scopes of work.  Act as Orbital representative at bid walkdowns.  Prepare manhour estimates and proposals.

Lead Civil projects and develop contractor construction packages including grading, paving and drainage plans, and scopes of work.  For larger projects, coordinate with other engineers and designers as required to execute the scope. Prepare and/or review calculations and deliverables for completeness and accuracy prior to issuance to client. 

Support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource

Lead internal and external quality and design review meetings throughout the course of the project

Develop, maintain and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects

Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines as set forth in corporate Quality Management System

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.

A minimum of 10 years’ experience working as an engineer in environments similar to the marketplaces served by Orbital is required. 

Superior communication and interpersonal skills with clients and engineering personnel are essential.​​ 

Thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including business enterprise and discipline-specific technical software suites such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Geopak

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree, Project Management Training, and/or PMP Certification

Project management experience including an understanding/use of project management and project control principles/tools

Knowledge of land surveying, 3D design, and Lidar
