Context

SYSTRA’s Mobility & Railway Business Unit is anticipating future growth, with new rail projects expected soon. To support these potential opportunities, we are looking for an experienced Systems Engineering Manager to join our project teams and contribute to our mobility solutions. 

The System Engineering Manager provides leadership and expertise for all systems engineering activities during the design phase of a major conventional rail project. The role ensures that all subsystem interfaces, integration, and assurance processes are managed in accordance with international and Middle East standards, driving technical excellence and compliance throughout project delivery. 

Missions/Main Duties

Systems Engineering Leadership 

Define and implement the systems engineering strategy, processes, and standards for the project’s design phase. 

Lead the development of Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP), requirements management, verification & validation, and interface management activities. 

Ensure design consistency, quality and timely development across the different design teams involved In the different countries. 

Integration & Technical Coordination 

Coordinate the definition and analysis of system, subsystem, and component-level requirements. 

Manage interfaces between track, civil, rolling stock, power supply, signaling, communications, and other systems. 

Support Value Engineering and Design Optimization reviews. 

Manage the integration of the System design with the infrastructure aspects of the problem. 

Technical Assurance 

Oversee design assurance activities and ensure delivery of compliant, safe, and reliable systems solutions. 

Manage the preparation and review of safety case documentation, RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) analyses, and assurance deliverables. 

Stakeholder & Client Engagement 

Liaise with client, consultants, and approval authorities for technical submissions, clarifications, and approvals related to systems. 

Support tendering, procurement, and contract administration for systems packages. 

Risk and Issue Management 

Identify and mitigate technical risks related to system design and integration. 

Lead the resolution of complex technical issues throughout the design phase. 

Team Leadership & Development 

Mentor and guide multidisciplinary engineering and integration teams. 

Support project team training on system engineering processes and best practices. 

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s (required) or Master’s (preferred) degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical, Electronics, or Railway Engineering. 

Experience: 

Minimum 20 years’ experience in rail systems engineering, with a strong track record in conventional rail projects. 

Significant experience (preferably 5+ years) in the Middle East delivering complex, multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects, including design phase work. 

Proven record in systems integration, assurance, requirements management, and design coordination. 

Skills: 

Deep knowledge of international and Middle East rail standards, systems engineering practices, and interface management. 

Proficient with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) and systems lifecycle management. 

Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills. 

Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve complex interface issues. 

Desirable 

Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional membership. 

Experience with digital engineering or BIM for systems integration. 

Familiarity with FMECA, RAMS, and safety critical systems. 

Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
