​​Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.​

As a Software Engineer II this role is for a team named “DW Swift” which is a full-stack team within the Synapse SQL DW. The immediate focus of the team will be to deliver next-gen SaaS Enterprise Data Warehouse. This involves making core changes in the product and the systems around it to be able to rapidly and predictably release the product and with high quality and agility.

You will have the opportunity to define and implement next-generation product experiences and work on industry-leading, ground-breaking innovation in areas such as: delivering high value product features and experiences, high availability, next-gen deployment, engineering systems, quality focused product design etc. The work will span custom Synapse Analytics components as well as the SQL Server code base.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

2+ years of experience designing and developing highly reliable engineering systems and infrastructure

Additional or preferred qualifications

Master's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain highly reliable services that enable users to interact with complex large-scale data

Design, develop and maintain highly reliable engineering systems and infrastructure that enable building world class products

Work with a large set of engineers across orgs and teams to troubleshoot issues, find root causes and bring them to closure

Support development teams and internal stakeholders by maintaining and running tight and efficient engineering systems and services

Partner with stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical leads) to define product requirements and create technical designs for future product capabilities

Collaborate with, mentor, and influence members within the team and across other teams at Microsoft

Lead by example in producing extensible and maintainable code with a focus on security, reliability, diagnosability, and performance

Lead design discussions with the team and share learnings from investigations, holding ownership for design decisions

Contribute to the product vision, roadmap, architecture, and planning

Participate in on-call rotation for maintaining service health along with other things
