Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Airworthiness Engineer within the Office of Airworthiness in our Poway, CA office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working with civil and military airworthiness authorities, formulates airworthiness plans and supports their execution, including requirements development, flight clearances, component and system level tests, verification and certification documentation.

Reviews DO-178C life cycle data and perform software Stage of Involvement (SOI) compliance audits.

Creates audit reports and submit to appropriate authorities (FAA or other authorities).

Supports and provides guidance to software engineering team on DO-178C certification requirements.

Evaluates the Software data (requirement, design, code and test procedures) using the FAA Job-aid or other appropriate checklist for compliance to DO-178C.

Witnesses sample of software formal testing for compliance.

Supports development of airworthiness requirements and incorporation of applicable standards, including design, safety, manufacturing and process standards.

Facilitates changes to product designs, testing, analyses, maintenance, repairs, operations and documentation in order to assure compliance with certification requirements.

May represent the organization as the prime technical contact with customers, government representatives, and other aerospace professionals.

Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications:

Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

Thorough knowledge of software development and verification activities.

Experience in RTCA DO-178C, DO-330 and FAA AC 20-115D

Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines in airworthiness requirements development, test, and verification activities.

Experience with military airworthiness policies, and preferably Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) airworthiness policies.

Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.

Customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in FAA order 8110-49A

Experience in Hardware (electronic of embedded system)

Experience in working with the FAA or other certifying authorities

Experience with MIL-HDBK-516 based certifications, -516C preferred.

Experience with civil and military aviation operating and flight rules (i.e., 14 CFR 91, OPNAVINST 3710.7U). Familiarity with carrier-based aircraft operations

Proficiency with MS Office tools preferred, and familiarity with database management systems such as DOORS and MS Access

A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium, and invited and/or participated on an engineering review panel or technical committee

$98,100 - $171,398
