Missions/Main Duties

Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Senior Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:

Develop design deliverables (drawings, reports, specifications) in accordance with appropriate Railway Group, Network Rail Company standards and other client requirements

Liaise with construction teams to ensure designs are buildable and represent value for money

Develop and maintain hazard / risk registers for allocated design packages.

Liaise with wider design team to ensure consistency and quality of deliverables across all projects.

Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements

Prepare and check technical documents and reports and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders

Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations

Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets

When required, to undertake the roles of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE), Task Manager, Designer, Checker or Approver for all various types of civil design.

Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others; competent to check and approve the work of others; competent to sign off design certificates on behalf of the company.

Conceptual outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options.

Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.

Training and development, mentoring of junior staff.

Client and third party liaison.

Establishment of internal design standards and/or processes to achieve a continuous improvement in quality and efficiency.

Contributing to long term technical development of the office by application of new techniques, procedures and practices.

Develop a strong focused client relationship

Effective management of and response to project related correspondence

Assist and support the Principal Engineer where required

Profile/Skills

Professional registration with either IStructE or ICE at Chartered level or demonstratable evidence of progress towards Chartership.

Significant Structural engineering design experience with large scale infrastructure exposure

Experience working with BIM level 2, Revit. Knowledge of Robot, Tekla, Tekla Tedds analysis software beneficial.

Experience working with relevant design standards for example Eurocodes, British Standards, UK Building Regulations, and Network Rail Standard.

When required, to undertake the roles of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE).
