Senior Structural Engineer - Bridges & Civil Infrastructure

Cairns, Queensland, Australia

Description

Job Description

Cairns preferred | Other Queensland locations considered

Build your structural engineering career around projects that matter to regional communities.

GHD is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Queensland Bridges team. Ideally based in Cairns, you’ll help deliver practical structural solutions across bridges, transport, water, marine and broader civil infrastructure projects throughout Queensland.

This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of project delivery while working closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll also support the continued growth of our structural capability in Cairns; mentor developing engineers and contribute to new project opportunities across the region.

You will be connected to GHD’s broader Queensland and national technical network, giving you the benefits of a locally based role without limiting the scale or variety of your work.

Working with our experienced structural and infrastructure teams, you will:

Lead and contribute to the analysis, design and documentation of bridges and other civil structures.

Deliver projects from concept and detailed design through to construction support and site activities.

Work across a varied portfolio that may include road and rail bridges, marine infrastructure, water-retaining structures, culverts, pump stations and other public infrastructure.

Undertake condition assessments and develop practical strengthening, rehabilitation and asset-upgrade solutions.

Coordinate structural inputs across multidisciplinary projects and work closely with engineers, designers, clients and contractors.

Manage technical quality, budgets, programmes and project risks within your area of responsibility.

Build trusted client relationships and contribute to proposals and new project opportunities.

Provide guidance, technical review and mentoring to junior engineers and designers.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be an experienced structural engineer who enjoys solving practical engineering problems, working directly with clients and contributing to the development of others.

A Bachelor of Engineering in Civil or Structural Engineering.

Minimum of 5 years industry experience as a Structural Engineer,

Membership of Engineers Australia and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) preferred, or an equivalent professional accreditation (e.g. CPEng), or the ability to obtain these credentials.

Demonstrated structural design and analysis experience across bridges, civil infrastructure or a related structural discipline

Experience delivering projects in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and industry requirements.

Strong technical judgement, with the ability to develop safe, practical and constructible solutions.

Experience coordinating project delivery, including scope, programme, budget and technical documentation.

Clear communication skills and the confidence to work with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.

An interest in mentoring developing engineers and contributing to a collaborative technical culture.

Experience across bridge design, structural assessment, rehabilitation, construction support or regional infrastructure delivery would be highly regarded.

A career and lifestyle opportunity in Cairns

Cairns offers the chance to work on infrastructure that supports communities across Far North Queensland while building strong, long-term relationships with local clients and project partners.

Outside work, the region offers an outdoor lifestyle, warm climate, shorter commutes and easy access to the coast, rainforest and surrounding regional communities. For an experienced candidate considering a move to Cairns, we’re open to discussing what support may be available.

If Cairns is not currently practical, we’re also open to speaking with suitable candidates based elsewhere in Queensland who can contribute effectively to the team and maintain a strong connection with our regional projects.
