We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer. Mechanical Engineer will assist the MEP Lead, Project Manager and/or Resident Engineer in administering the operational functions of the day-to-day activities on the project. He/She will participate in review and approval of all submittals by the contractors and involves in the quality control and quality assurance. Under the supervision of the Resident Engineer or MEP Lead, performs routine inspection monitoring tasks to confirm if proper construction supervision is being performed by others.  Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Document non-conformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution.

Responsibilities

Assist the RE and/or MEP Lead in performing the contractual duties on site.

Advise the project manager of any technical aspects of the mechanical services that may affect construction progress, quality and the like.

Interface with the public, especially residents and business owners adjacent to the work to mitigate the construction impacts.

Oversee and inspect all mechanical work and ensure that installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards.

Follow-up with the contractor and support in coordinating with the utility authority regarding connections whenever required.

Monitor and coordinates all contractors' activities for this discipline.

Performs works inspection requests and material inspection requests on a daily basis.

Undertake general project site observation / inspection of the mechanical services works for Contractor's adherence to the approved shop drawings and Consultant's specification, good working practices, the construction schedule and health & safety.

Provide support in reviewing construction submittals from project inception to close-out.

Review Contractor's installation method statements.

Review Contractor's shop drawings against the design [tender] drawings for compliance with the design intent and return to project manager with appropriate comments / approval.

Review contractor's shop drawing in conjunction with the structural and mechanical engineers to ensure engineering co-ordination and advise project manager accordingly.

Review Contractor's mechanical services material proposals against specified technical performance requirements and advise the Project Manager on the appropriateness of the proposals.

Review Contractor's proposed sub-contractor(s) associated with the mechanical engineering works from a technical standpoint.

Undertake prior review of Contractor's proposed mechanical system testing & commissioning methods and schedule.

Review and comment on Contractor's testing and commissioning results and advise Project Manager accordingly.

Collaborate with construction management to eliminate any hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees.

Review and interpret discipline design drawings and specifications to ensure current re vision level and correct technical execution of the work.

Provide resolution for technical engineering problems within the assigned discipline(s); coordinate application of solutions to ensure progress on site.

Undertake final project snagging and prepare list of defects for Contractor's action.

Attend project, site progress and any mechanical services related technical meetings as directed by the project manager.

Prepare draft site / engineer's instructions, relating to the building mechanical services, as required and issue to the Project Manager.

Provide advice to the Project Manager in regard to any mechanical services related variation costs that may be claimed by the Contractor during the course of the works.

Review and comment upon Contractors Operation and Maintenance manuals.

Monitor material procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and schedule within the assigned discipline.

Ensure that materials received meet specifications and established standards of quality.     

Organize the accumulation of assigned discipline data for the final project turnover and report.     

Be available to undertake off-site inspections of proposed equipment and materials as may be deemed necessary by the Project Manager.

Oversee junior engineers and inspectors for all mechanical work and ensure that installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards.

Follow-up with the contractor and support in coordinating with the utility authority regarding connections whenever required.

Ensure that the project quality control procedures are used for the construction supervision works and monitor it for improvement.

Initiates and maintains records, back charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required.

Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

External Communications: Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice.

Construction Management: Supervise others on a construction project, working within established operational systems.

Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate.

Work Scheduling and Allocation: Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates in order to achieve expectations while following established timelines.

Leadership and Direction: Communicate the local action plan; explain how this relates to the function's strategy and action plan and to the broader organization's mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals.

Performance Management: Respond to personal objectives and use performance management systems to improve personal performance; or monitor the performance of the team, allocate work and review completion, take appropriate corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality, and contribute to formal individual performance management and appraisal.

Organizational Capability Building: Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills.

Quality Assurance: Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes. Implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives and monitor them to make sure they are effective.

Operational Compliance: Identify, within the team, instances of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these instances and escalating issues as appropriate.

Client & Customer Management (External): Help senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant sales or client systems.
