This role based in Harrogate is for Coffey Geotechnics, a Tetra Tech Company. Coffey Geotechnics is a specialist consultancy providing geotechnical and engineering geological design services from offices in Harrogate, Manchester and Reading (UK).

About the role:

A P4 Senior Geotechnical Engineering Consultant plans and conducts professional work without detailed supervision, but with guidance on unusual features. Responsible for the management and results of projects. The role represents the company with clients, consultants and contractors developing relationships and exploring opportunities of increasing workload and revenue. The role also establishes professional standards and procedures and shares knowledge with others, acting as a mentor and assisting in the development of more junior members of staff

Role Responsibilities:

• Be an ambassador for Coffey in the ground engineering field; promote our interests and reputation
• Protect our confidential information and intellectual property
• Follow our policies, procedures and code of conduct
• Play an active role in your safety and the safety of others around you
• Be prepared to manage projects with a degree of technical complexity
• Be prepared to travel on occasion for project related work when required. This could be working from other Coffey offices within the UK or abroad for defined periods of time, or on client sites within the UK or abroad

Essential Skills:

• Enthusiasm and a keen interest in continually developing your geotechnical consultancy skills.
• Apply detailed theoretical knowledge of geotechnical engineering and project management principles
• Proficient in the use of spreadsheets and FREW, SLIDE, Settle 3D, Plaxis or similar industry standard software.
• Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications
• An understanding of the operating model of a specialist consulting business
• An understanding of how innovative and practical solutions create client value – can contribute to new or original techniques in the design
• An ability in a client facing role promoting technical capabilities and service offerings to clients
• An ability to identify and convert new business opportunities with existing and new clients
• Presents appropriate information in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing
• Good interpersonal skills and a strong team focus

Desirable Skills:

• An understanding of the operating model of a specialist consulting business
• An understanding of how innovative and practical solutions create client value – can contribute to new or original techniques in the design
• An ability in a client facing role promoting technical capabilities and service offerings to clients

Relevant Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Civil Engineering or similar
• Postgraduate qualification (MSc, MEng or PhD) in a related field (e.g. hydrogeology/engineering geology/geotechnical engineering) is an advantage
• Chartered or working towards Chartered status through an appropriate professional body

Other:

• Potential for project-dependent security clearance to be requested.
• A current UK Driving License is preferred.

Plaxis

Plaxis is the name of our company as well as our brand name. Under this brand name we supply a range of software tools, courses, seminars and expert services all targeted at the world of geotechnics, geo-engineering and civil engineering.

Our software is based on the finite element method and intended for 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional analysis of deformation and stability of soil structures, as well as groundwater and heat flow, in geo-engineering applications such as excavations, foundations, embankments and tunnels.

Plaxis Geotechnical Software

Geotechnical applications require advanced constitutive models for the simulation of the non-linear and time-dependent behaviour of soils. In addition, since soil is a multi-phase material, special procedures are required to deal with hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic pore pressures in the soil. Although the modelling of the soil itself is an important issue, many geotechnical engineering projects involve the modelling of structures and the interaction between the structures and the soil. Plaxis software is equipped with special features to deal with the numerous aspects of complex geotechnical structures.

Plaxis software is known for its robustness and high quality. To maintain these high standards we have implemented a chain of quality assurance processes supported by the appropriate tools.

Before any new model or method is generally introduced in either our knowledge transfer program or in our software, it is thoroughly tested and validated. Validation and testing is performed by Plaxis staff as well as by members of the academic society and a selected group of end-users that perform Beta-tests for us.
