Senior Architectural Planner

PAYETTE seeks a senior architect with space planning, programming, and lab planning experience to join and expand the Space Strategies group. The ideal candidate brings strategic planning and leadership skills, has experience in higher education and corporate settings, and is highly skilled at client interactions.

Project work is anticipated to fluctuate between academic space / campus planning and space programming associated with built work and lab planning. Design thinking and excellent communication skills along with a passion for planning and designing research and teaching spaces in science and engineering are essential.

Space Strategies is an interdisciplinary group at PAYETTE working at the intersection of planning, programming, and design working with science and healthcare clients. It’s an exciting time at PAYETTE as we integrate new methods of analysis and communication into the design and planning process.

Position responsibilities will include:

  • Lead space planning and programming efforts in collaboration with project leadership for scientific research and higher education clients
  • Attend interviews and lead workshops and meetings with client groups
  • Oversee and/or develop clear and compelling data visualizations, design drawings, diagrams and presentations
  • Contribute to the development of internal processes and tools within the Space Strategies group and, more broadly, PAYETTE

Candidates must have the following qualifications to be considered for the position:

  • Expertise and passion for academic and/or laboratory planning and design
  • Professional degree in architecture and at least 10 years of professional experience
  • Adept at client engagement and project management
  • Skilled at creating and directing the production of presentations consisting of design and analysis for leadership audiences
  • Interest in higher education and healthcare space planning and campus planning

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Excellent presentation, writing, social and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and follow-through skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, consultants, and Payette staff
  • Strong software skills such as Excel, Adobe Suite, Rhino, Revit, and PowerBI
