We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Building Services 

Mechanical Design Engineer to be part of our dynamic multidisciplinary 

engineering team in London. You will be required to work autonomously 

or with a team to develop the successful projects through clear strategy 

and proactive commitment nationally and internationally

 Role definition

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer, Associate

 Reporting to: Partner on a day-to-day basis and ultimately the Senior Partner

 Responsibilities

• Represent the company in professional and diligent manner always

 • To provide discipline leadership 

 • To manage the design process and coordinate building services engineering activities relating to the project including the management of engineering sub-consultants 

 • To lead, manage, and co-ordinate the engineering project team as required 

 • To fulfil the Practice’s overall objective in producing first class architecture and engineering on time and on budget 

 • Review and management of project from inception to post construction duties

 • Good Knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides and good practice 

 • To have thorough knowledge of and compliance with Foster + Partners procedures and standards

 • To contribute to Group management activities, as required by the Partner and/or the Senior Partner 

  Qualities and skills required 

• Able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities 

 • Legally able to work in the country in which the position is based 

 • Qualified as a Chartered Engineer 

 • Deep technical understanding of own core engineering discipline and the role of the building services engineer within the design team

 • Good understanding of other engineering disciplines engaged in the design of the built environment

 • Good understanding of UK Building Regulations and industry standard design reference material

 • Ability to use initiative in response to demands of project 

 • Able to negotiate and communicate well in graphical, written or verbal forms including ability to listen and to understand others 

 • Ability to understand and formulate design decisions 

 • Understanding of financial aspects of running a design project on time and on budget 

 • A flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and a proven commitment to independent, lifelong learning

• Excellent organizational skills and use of initiative

 • Developed problem-solving and analytical skills

 • Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of an effective team 

 • Able to build good relationships at all levels, internally and externally 

 • Resilient to cope with conflicting demands, able to priorities duties and work effectively under pressure 

 • Ability to use Autodesk Revit and Microsoft ‘Office’ suite 

 Desirable 

 • International project experience 

 • Track record of project delivery in BIM 

 • LEED qualified or having working familiarity with environmental assessment methods such as LEED/BREEAM/WELL etc. 

 • Good understanding of sustainable design and the role of HVAC systems design in the built environment with some knowledge on MEP embodied carbon 

 • Familiarity with ASHRAE design standards, including 55, 62.1, 90.1 etc.

 • Ability to use some of the following software applications: IES, Adobe Creative Suite

 • Coding in python, dynamo, grasshopper, C+
