Your impact

Jacobs is looking for a Resident Engineer, Civil to join our Civil Team in Malaysia. The Resident Engineer will use their leadership and communication skills to develop a trusted relationship with the project team, contractor and with the Client’s team. Your responsibility will be to effectively communicate with all members of the project team and work to mitigate or eliminate project risks. You’ll be expected to place an emphasis on safe construction practices (Beyond Zero) and on maintaining a high quality of construction. You must lead by example and oversee safe practices on site. This person will be reporting to Senior Project Manager.

Additionally in this role, you will have a good understanding of the construction industry, and this position entails all typical duties of a resident engineer with an inspection/office engineering staff with a proven record of supervising a construction inspection staff. 

We are currently working on some exciting projects, and this is the opportunity to be involved and be part of a dynamic team. You will also manage and provide technical expertise to junior staff and establish enduring client relationships. This is the chance to showcase that you are the Subject Matter Expert and will play a key role and provide input into the wider structural team.

  • Carries out site supervision, handles site problems and queries from clients, contractors or other consultants of the project.
  • Oversee works of contractors to ensure that specifications and drawings are complied with, and quality control of drawings and design information is clearly and correctly presented.
  • Carries out other duties assigned by the Project Director/ Head of Department / Project Engineer.
  • Ensure contractor complies to the project quality plan, evaluate, and advise contractor on their work methods and program of work to ensure safe and timely completion of the project.
  • Ensure all relevant authorities are notified and approvals are obtained prior to execution of works.
  • Carry out onsite inspections and notify Client of variances if not in accordance with design specifications, make recommendations on non-compliant works and defective works as well as recommendation/alteration/adjustment to original design in view of site condition or constraints. This includes both technical and financial recommendations.
  • To evaluate application for any extension of time, claims, contractor submissions such as catalogue, technical data, design calculations, test reports, shop drawings, technical proposals etc.
  • Prepare routine reports, non-compliance reports and review corrective action plans.
  • Organize and delegates day to day activities of the Clerk of Works.
  • To assist in finalization of final account with proper records and filing system. To coordinate & finalize all As-Built Drawings prepared by the Contractor.

Here's what you'll need

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil / Structural Engineering or its equivalent
  • More than 10 years’ experience of site-based supervision work for buildings or related structure projects preferably in high rise buildings.
  • Must have site supervision experience.
  • Candidates must have work right status to be employed in Malaysia.
