About the @one Alliance
The Anglian Water @one Alliance is a totally collaborative organization made up of nine partner companies (Anglian Water, SWECO, Balfour Beatty, Bar hale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, and Skanska) and an extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programmed.
We are gearing up for our most exciting and challenging Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, this will see us deliver a programmed of work larger than we’ve ever delivered before. We’ll be embarking on a new kind of project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

As a Mechanical Engineer within one of our four business units, you will bolster our mechanical engineering capabilities in our alliance team and provide fresh ideas and perspective on our ways of working.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead the preparation and analysis of key mechanical options, for review and agreement with the client and key project stakeholders ensuring risks and gaps are mitigated whilst always upholding the Project Basis of Design
Design calculations facilitating the sizing of mechanical, hydraulic, power generating and building services equipment
Liaise with the supply chain to ensure the latest technologies are assessed and understood as part of the optioneering process
Collaborate with the design team to develop 3D models and solutions
Oversee the outputs for a number of processes including P&IDs and Data sheets. HAZID and HAZOP studies and mechanical input into commissioning plans, including proposed performance tests
Support the team in the drive towards excellence in Health & Safety, demonstrating applied knowledge and skills to produce safe designs to discharge your obligation according to CDM Regulations and standards
Identify and promote opportunities to meet the project digital, sustainability, innovation and people objectives
About You
You will ideally have:
A degree in Mechanical Engineering
Extensive practical mechanical design experience in a similar environment
Proven track record of designing hydraulic and mechanical systems and products
Possess a good understanding of modular build and construction processes and procedures
Collaboration and team work
Courage to try new things and work differently to safely deliver
Depending on your skills, experience, and interests, you could be aligned to one of our four business units:
Place Based Thinking
The Place Based Thinking team delivers some of the largest and most complex projects across the @one Alliance. Made up of six Senior Project Manager teams, we oversee 19 catchments, covering key sites such as Whitingham, Flag Fen, Great Billing, Cotton Valley, Bedford, Colchester, and Ipswich Cliff Quays. These projects involve managing all parts of the network from rising and gravity mains, pumping stations, high spilling overflows, and water recycling centers.
Water
The Water Business Unit provides strategic support across the clean water network, covering both system performance and infrastructure planning. We assess the future hydraulic state of the network in response to population growth and increased demand, support the design and delivery of capital and infrastructure schemes to ensure hydraulic resilience, and work with optimization teams to enhance overall network efficiency.
Water Recycling (East and West)
Our Water Recycling Business Unit, split into East and West regions, is responsible for the collection, conveyance, and treatment of wastewater across an extensive network. We operate over 76,000 km of sewerage infrastructure and 1,163 treatment centers, ensuring safe and sustainable discharge to the environment while driving innovation and environmental performance.
