Our Pinjarra Refinery are seeking a skilled professional Geotechnical Engineer to oversee the safe and compliant operation of impoundment facilities in alignment with Alcoa’s Impoundment Policy, Standards, Guidelines, and Procedures. This role supports the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) in managing risks and implementing effective control measures, including the timely escalation of emerging issues.

This role is an integral member of the Pinjarra Engineering team and provides advice on geotechnical, tailings and dam safety risks to the Location Civil Engineering resources and Residue Operations at Pinjarra

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine inspections and risk assessments of tailings and related infrastructure.

  • Lead and support geotechnical investigations, including scoping and execution of embankment construction and remediation projects.

  • Monitor key performance indicators such as water levels, tailings/residue instrumentation, and embankment stability.

  • Liaise and collaborate with internal teams and external specialist teams including Engineer of Record

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering

  • Post graduate business or project management studies are seen as favourable.

  • Previous relevant experience working in the mining, metals, mineral processing industry in a similar role, with a high level of technical expertise in this discipline.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong understanding on the practical application of AS1170, AS4100 & AS3600.

  • Working at heights ticket favorable.
