What to Expect

Tesla is looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to develop production equipment and processes for dry electrode manufacturing lines. You will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering team to take 4680 cell electrode equipment concepts from initial prototyping, through pilot scale development and into full production line implementation. Battery cells are a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems, and in this role, you will have opportunity to drive manufacturing costs down while maintaining industry leading product quality.

What You’ll Do

  • Assemble, test and install continuous improvement projects
  • Fabricate or modify parts as required for equipment prototyping in a development lab
  • Support maintenance technicians during urgent line down events
  • Participate in production line maintenance campaigns
  • Maintain development lab space readiness for engineering activities
  • Inventory, organize and control access to maintenance tools and instruments

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years' experience in a maintenance or engineering technician role
  • Ability to perform hands-on tasks related to equipment fabrication, commissioning and maintenance
  • Familiarity with high-volume production equipment
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and positioners is desired
  • Experience with roll-to-roll converting systems is desired
  • Command of the English languange, both written and verbal 
Essential Physical Demands: 
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs 
  • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach 
  • Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day 
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures 
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines

Expected Compensation

$30.50 - $58.33/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
