The successful installation of the first 4.8m steel reinforced column marks the project of 428m Dongguan International Trade Center having come to the stage of main structure construction.

The Project, being contracted by China Construction Fifth Engineering Division Corp., Ltd (CSCEC 5th Bureau), has the total building area of 1,080,000sqm. Though the project’s five towers feature distinctive shapes and designs, they will share a family resemblance through their materials (reflective glass and metal panel) and connect with one another via the eminently walkable campus.

The tallest tower – an office building crowned by a club, an observation deck and a symbolic lantern of its own – will rise 426.9 meters, making it the 25th tallest skyscraper currently proposed in the world. Its chamfered silhouette is intended to evoke the yulan magnolia, the official city flower, in bud form. A 260-meter tower will contain office space and a club topped by residential floors. A 195-meter tower will house a bank. Two shorter towers will serve as a hotel and creative studios, respectively.

5+design’s vision for the project was inspired by Dongguan’s natural surroundings, namely Huangqi Mountain and, at its peak, the lantern commemorating the spot where the legendary glow of fireflies around a banyan tree guided fishermen home from the sea. Sited to create view corridors to the mountaintop, the Dongguan International Trade Center will offer convenient subway and bus access to a man-made valley of prestigious places to meet, shop, dine and play. Fountains, waterfalls and lush plantings will soften stone walls, terraces and plazas. While sunlight streams through a glass skylight to brighten lower-level shops, glass bridges will afford unobstructed views of everything below.
