Today, the tenth of March, is International V8 Day – a time for the V8 engine to be celebrated around the world. Follow the festivities in social media using the #V8Day hashtag.

On this day in 1932, the first Ford vehicle with a V8 engine motored out of the company’s factory. While it wasn’t the first V8 engine produced, a new casting method meant that Ford could now produce the engine at a lower cost and in higher volumes.

It was the key turning point in the V8’s history. Since that time, V8 engines have been found in everything from luxury car, such as Rolls-Royces, and premium trucks, such as Scanias, to vessels, buses and motorcycles. What attracts enthusiasts is the V8’s sheer power and its unmistakable rumble.
