Holden and popular cycling website, CyclingTips, have collaborated to produce a unique and stunning VFII Sportwagon support car for their partnership this summer.

Set to make its debut at Australia’s biggest cycling event, The Tour Down Under, the CyclingTips VFII SS-V Sportwagon boasts 6.2 litre, V8 engine performance complemented by cycle racks and interior space with the practicality to carry multiple bicycles and support gear.

The Holden Commodore VFII SS-V Sportwagon on which the support car is based is available at Holden dealerships across Australia with roof racks and cycle racks available in Holden’s catalogue of genuine accessories, ensuring the car fits in seamlessly with cyclists’ lifestyles.

At the centre of Holden’s VFII Sportwagon wrap design was Lead Designer, Warrack Leach.  Whilst a keen cyclist in his spare time, Warrack is better known for his Detroit motorshow award-winning design of the Buick Avenir concept car.

Inspired by CyclingTips’ stylish ‘North/South’ kit design, Warrack penned the VFII Sportwagon car wrap in Holden’s Port Melbourne design studio with input from CyclingTips, and an added twist for cycling fans.

“As well as the basic design, we added a twist by creating a mosaic of over 1000 user generated Instagram images from CyclingTips’ hashtag #wymtm (What You Missed This Morning), giving followers the chance to look out for themselves on the car at the Tour,” said Mr. Leach.

“The Holden Sportwagon has been a popular choice of team car with Australia’s National Road Series cycling squads for good reason, it’s the perfect blend of performance and utility.”

CyclingTips founder, Wade Wallace was on hand to aid in the design of the car that is destined to feature at all of the major events in the 2016 summer of cycling as well as a 5 part series of CyclingTips road trips all over Australia.

“The VFII Sportwagon is a great cycling support car.  It has the power to keep up with our quickest riders whilst remaining agile and easy to handle when the corners get tight.  I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces in South Australia,” said Mr. Wallace.

“Being involved in the design of the car with Warrack at Holden’s Design studio demonstrated the talent they have.  There are a lot of similarities in bike and car design it seems, not least the extensive use of digital tools.”

The Holden x CyclingTips support car will be at the 2016 Tour Down Under from Monday 18 January until its conclusion on Sunday 24 January before embarking on numerous other rides over the summer.
