Morgan Advanced Materials has invested in the manufacture of Polycrystalline Wool fibre, utilising Sol-Gel Technology

This high temperature insulating fibre, marketed under the brand name Alphawool® will be available in a range of product forms, including:

  • Alphawool Bulk HA (1600ºC) and LA (1500ºC)
  • Alphawool Unifelt with a classification temperature of 1600ºC
  • Alphawool 1600 VF Board with classification temperature of 1600ºC

Alphawool fibre is produced by a ‘sol-gel method’ from aqueous spinning solutions and is suitable for use at application temperatures > 1300°C and in critical chemical and physical application conditions. Its key properties are:

  • Defined dimensions
  • Chemical and Thermal Stability
  • Low Linear Shrinkage
  • Low thermal mass and good insulating properties
  • High tensile strength
  • Very low shot content < 2% (Alphawool bulk)
  • Uniform Fibre Diameters Average
  • Lightweight
  • High Resilience
