CH2M will make a presentation with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi on an innovative modular data center system being installed for the first time at a new NBAD data center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The presentation will be made November 17 at 10:30 am at the 7x24 Exchange Fall Conference being held at the JW Marriott Hill Country hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Presenters will be CH2M Senior Architectural Data Center Technologist Bob Kirkendall and NBAD Program Manager Basil Bahoshy.

The presentation will detail the process of conceptualizing, designing and developing a new CH2M modular data center concept integrating patent-pending technology with traditional data center design as well as design features reflective of Arabic culture. The first CH2M modular units were fabricated in Croatia and have been installed on site. Project completion is scheduled for January 2016

The new CH2M modular concept involves modular, pre-assembled data centers which are self-contained mechanical, electrical and IT units that are factory fabricated and transported as a single package for “plug-and-play” field installation. The concept reduces first cost, long-term operating cost, and time to start up, as well as being easily adaptable to multiple locations around the globe.

These modular units allow for maximum scalability, flexibility and fast deployment. The modular units can also be rapidly attached together on site to form contiguous IT “pods” which quickly scale up or down to meet a specific owner’s changing data requirements.

This modular data center concept offers a host of advantages over conventional data center designs, including reduced energy use, lower initial capital investment, smaller building footprint, faster time to market, superior reliability, and superior flexibility since modular data centers can be added or deleted as capacity needs change.

Operating in 13 regions, NBAD is the leading financial institution in the United Arab Emirates with aggressive goals to expand to 35 global regions by 2020. CH2M’s modular data center design is viewed as an excellent solution for quickly and energy efficiently scaling data center capacities in a high-temperature environment.

The new CH2M modular design has generated considerable interest and anticipation in the data center industry. In addition to being a featured technology at the 7x24 Fall Conference, the CH2M modular units have been profiled in multiple articles by the prominent IT research company 451 Research.
