Enfield Council has named developer Countryside as its preferred partner in the £160m regeneration of New Avenue in Southgate, London N14 which will see more than 450 new homes built for the area.

The apartment buildings on Shepcot House, Coverack Close and Beardow Grove will be demolished to create a vibrant new development. A combination of apartments, maisonettes and houses will be built including 311 private sale homes and 140 new affordable homes. A pre-school nursery and multi-purpose community centre will also be provided in order to bring social, economic and environmental benefits to the estate and wide community.

Richard Cherry, Chief Executive (Partnerships) at Countryside, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred bidder for New Avenue and we look forward to working with Enfield Council to deliver much needed new housing. We are working closely with local residents and award winning architects HTA to develop the designs for a scheme that will better serve the local community.”

“We will also build upon the successes of our two other current schemes in Enfield, Highmead in Edmonton and Alma in Ponders End.”

Cllr Ahmet Oykener, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing & Estate Regeneration said, ‘’The selection of Countryside as our development partner for the New Avenue scheme is an important step towards the regeneration of the estate and the Council’s commitment to ultimately deliver thousands of much needed new homes across the borough.

“People living in Enfield will be the main beneficiaries of this project. They will have the first opportunity to purchase the new homes, tenants will keep their secure tenancies should they choose to remain on the estate and local people will be prioritised with regard to jobs and training opportunities.’’

Work on the site is anticipated to start in early 2016 with completion due in Spring 2023.
