Benoy, the global studio of Architects, Masterplanners, Interior and Graphic Designers, was proud to be invited to participate in “Beyond Architecture”, a special exhibition curated for ON DESIGN Shanghai as part of the Shanghai International Creative City Think Tank.

The exhibition welcomed  50 designers, artists and architects to explore the idea of ‘Crossover’ design and how design is integrated into our daily lives. The participants each created an object fitting within a two square metre space which embodied the theme. Director and Head of the Shanghai Studio Qin Pang and Senior Architect Marcial Hernandez led Benoy’s submission which was inspired by the concept of the ‘Social unit’.

“As designers, we are always looking to provide solutions which can appeal and interact with users on multiple levels. The social unit we have designed is an object which functions as furniture, a sculpture and an art installation,” explained Qin Ping.

“Our aim is to stimulate creativity when you use the piece and so the design is adaptable and flexible for numerous scenarios. It can be indoor or outdoor, used for seating, sleeping, playing or a spectator stand, groups and families or just haven for one,” explained Qin.

The exhibition was featured at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre.
