Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) has received seven Green GOOD DESIGN Awards, which recognize work that embodies and inspires progress toward a healthy and sustainable future. The awards program, now in its sixth year, stems from the preeminent GOOD DESIGN Awards, founded in 1950 by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., to promote public understanding and appreciation for modern design. Both programs are managed by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies in cooperation with the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

The illustrious jury of the Green GOOD DESIGN Awards, composed of worldwide leaders in the design profession, selected winners in the categories of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, product, packaging, and graphic design. The recipients hail from 34 different nations. The following SOM projects were recognized:

Green Architecture

New United States Courthouse – Los Angeles
Pearl River Tower
U.S. Consulate General – Guangzhou

Green Urban Planning/Landscape Architecture

Beijing Bohai Innovation City
Chicago Lakeside Master Plan
Denver Union Station
Nanjing Xiaguan Riverfront Master Plan

These awards reflect SOM’s commitment to environmentally sustainable architecture and compact, highly livable urban environments.
